On Waverly West

Councillor Jenny Gerbasi said she’s worried council may abdicate responsibility for the suburb, leaving it to be developed in the old way, “where developers present their plan, residents scream and yell and the outcome is another Linden Woods.“ She was referring to past criticism of subdivisions that are designed primarily for vehicle-oriented families with single-family homes on big lots with few parks or walkways. Instead, Gerbasi said the city should take a leadership role and take time to do broad, collaborative public consultation to make sure Waverly West is truly a “smart“ suburb with access to transit, bike paths, shops and a variety of high-density housing units.
